Australia: how much can you actually save by switching?
Genuine market — savings well-documented by the regulator — compiled August 2026.
Switching away from a default plan can save $100–$300/year
The ACCC found households on their retailer’s standard/default offer can save $100–$250/year by moving to a market offer — in NSW specifically, the gap runs closer to $300/year. There’s also a real ‘loyalty penalty’: households on the same plan for 3+ years pay about $221/year more on average than customers on newer plans.
